For the past two weeks Youth-in-Custody students at Salt Lake Valley Youth Center have been participating in a project that celebrates the anniversary of women getting the right to vote in Utah. It is a project presented by STEMCAP in partnership with the Utah Museum of Fine Arts (UMFA) and Better Days 2020 that focuses on important women throughout history. During this series students participated in a variety of women-led workshops including a virtual museum tour from UMFA, a science presentation from a biologist at the University of Utah and a portrait workshop led by a local illustrator. Students featured a female historical figure of their choice in a watercolor portrait and shared their favorite fact about that woman with the rest of the center during the final day of the series.
